We are excited to announce that the Historical Society of Pennsylvania (HSP) has been selected as a recipient of a Connecting Communities Digital Initiative Libraries, Archives, & Museums award from the Library of Congress (LOC).
With this grant from the Library of Congress, the Historical Society of Pennsylvania will venture into podcasting with Resurrecting Voices: The Philadelphia Black Experience. This pilot project will explore Black history in Philadelphia in the 19th and 20th centuries, combining HSP’s and LOC’s collections related to Black Philadelphia with the potential for African American genealogical research.
The first episodes of the podcast are slated to air in the fall of 2023 and will continue into 2024 against the backdrop of HSP’s bicentennial anniversary.
HSP’s Programs and Communications Coordinator Selena Bemak will serve as the project lead and primary host of Resurrecting Voices. Director of Genealogy Programs and Services Katy Bodenhorn Barnes will co-host select segments with a genealogical perspective. Each episode will feature a guest speaker.
