This past Saturday, October 5, many of our friends joined us at 13th and Locust for History on the Street, a block party to commemorate our 200th anniversary with cultural organizations providing tours and demonstrations, vendors, food trucks, and a DJ. Inside HSP, we shared a pop-up display related to the year 1824 as well as documents featuring the work of some of our cultural partners.
Visitors also enjoyed a scavenger hunt, a free book table, and an art-making table. Highlights included a 1950 Census look-up with our genealogist Katy Bodenhorn Barnes, and free tours of the neighborhood with different partners around five different themes.
Over 4000 people enjoyed the gorgeous October weather with us, and hopefully they connected with the past and made meaningful discoveries about who they are and who we are together as a neighborhood and a commonwealth. A full list of participants can been read here.
